At least one person was injured in a rocket attack on the venue of Loya Jirga or traditional grand assembly in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Thursday morning. The four-day Loya Jirga with over 2,300 participants, including tribal elders, chieftains, parliamentarians and government functionaries, kicked off on Wednesday to discuss the proposed strategic partnership with the U.S. as well as government- initiated peace talks with Taliban militants. "At around 08:10 a.m. (0340 GMT) Thursday two round of rockets were fired from Lalandar mountain in south of Kabul city and landed in two different locations as a result one person was injured," the Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement. The statement said one of the rockets landed near Inter- Continental Hotel, some 500 meters from Loya Jirga venue. It said the other rocket hit Charrahi Sarsabzi area, leaving a man injured. "Police has launched an investigation into the incident," the statement added. The security check is tightened and Afghan army and police are deployed around the the Polytechnic University campus where the Loya Jirga is being held and other sensitive spots and hilltops nearby. The statement blamed the rocket attack on the enemies of peace and stability, a reference to Taliban insurgents who have threatened to disrupt the Loya Jirga. A suicide bomber, who attempted to enter the Loya Jirga compound, was killed and another attacker captured by police on Monday.
