Upon an invitation from the Government of the Republic of Senegal, a delegation of observers from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat took part in monitoring the Presidential election held on Sunday 26th February 2012 un Senegal, as OIC's website reported. On the election day the members of the delegation undertook extensive field visits to various polling stations throughout the major districts of the capital, Dakar, and monitored all stages of the vote. They took note of the massive turnout of voters who cast their votes in a calm and disciplined atmosphere. The Secretary General would like to seize this opportunity to express his satisfaction with the overall conduct of the election and extended his congratulations to the Senegalese people for showing, once more, their keenness to foster national unity and interest in the protection of democracy in their country. He also expressed his appreciation to the authorities for their organized approach in conducting the Presidential election.
