
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed appreciation to efforts made by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in bringing the international community together to give support for the Syrian humanitarian crisis.OCHA's spokesperson Jens Laerke said in a press conference, Friday, that Kuwait has been able to gather 120 UN member states, UN organizations and NGO's to attend this important conference that directly tackles the deteriorating crisis of the Syrian refugees; a crisis that has affected some 4 million Syrian refugees and some 6.5 million others displaced inside Syria, of which half of the latters are children.To deal with this daunting crisis, at least USD 6.5 billion should be collected in the biggest humanitarian operation by the UN and its organizations, he added.OCHA noted that the 2nd donors conference is only an extension of the previous one that was held last year and successfully collected USD 1.5 billion donations for the Syrians.
