The US President Barak Obama said Tuesday that NATO''s campaign in Libya will continue as long as the Libyans are threatened , and pledged to support the National Transitional Council. He said at a meeting on Libya at the UN that those who support the previous Libyan regime should understand that it was now time to lay down arms and to join the new Libya. Obama called for free and fair elections at the end of the current transitional stage in Libya noting that the country was in need of a new constitution and new laws , political parties and a strong civil society. He said the US ambassador will return to Tripoli next week to reopen the American embassy there. Obama, earlier Tuesday met for the first time with the chairman of the National Transitional Council Mustafa Abdel Jalil.
