Iran’s new Ambassador Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani presented his credentials to President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday. Iranian new Ambassador to Damascus in a meeting with Syrian president discussed latest regional and international developments as well as bilateral relations. President al-Assad wished Iranian ambassador success in his mission. Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid al-Moallem, Minister of the Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam and other senior Iranian and Syrian officials were present in the meeting. Sheibani who formerly served as Iran's ambassador to Lebanon told IRNA that he would do whatever within his capacity to bolster ties between the two Muslim allies. Iran and Syria have developed an alliance ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the two countries' officials exchange visits on a regular basis. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was last in Tehran at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation in October 2010. The two countries enjoy strategic relations in a wide variety of fields.
