Cairo - Anadolu

Supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi protested Sunday near foreign embassies and state institutions against what they describe as a military coup against the elected president. Two marches were organized to the embassies of Germany and India in downtown Cairo, urging both countries to oppose the “coup”. Security forces were beefed near the US Embassy in downtown Cairo in anticipation of a similar march. A women demonstration went from Nahda Square, where Morsi supporters have been camping for days to protest his ouster, to the headquarters of the National Council for Women to protest the killing of three pro-Morsi women during a peaceful rally in Mansoura on Friday. Supporters marched from Nour al-Islam Mosque in Giza towards the Giza Governorate building flying Egyptian flags and chanting slogans against army chief and Defense Minister Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi. The army overthrew Morsi, Egypt’s first democratically elected president, on July 3 following mass protests against his regime. It suspended the constitution and installed Adly Mansour, the head of the constitutional court, as interim president. Morsi supporters have since been staging mass demonstrations and sit-ins to defend his democratic legitimacy and demand his reinstatement.
