Ministry of Infrastructure Development
Dubai - Arab Today

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has opened the detour on the Sharjah-Maliha Road, starting from the crossing No. 5 toward Kalba for a three kilometre through the intersection at the entrance of the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road.

The move was aimed at ensuring that the traffic passes more efficiently along the Maliha Road. The Ministry is overseeing the implementation of the work there.

Engineer Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of Roads Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, said the detour arrangement will last for about three months in the first phase. He urged all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to the guidelines about the detour.

Al Hammadi pointed out that the project to develop the Maliha road was commenced by the ministry in the beginning of this year. It is expected to be completed within two years at a cost of AED174 million, including the maintenance of the existing road, expanding it into three lanes in both directions, as well as creating road shoulders to enhance safety and replace the concrete barriers with iron ones to prevent sand accumulation.

He pointed out that the 42km road extends from Al Badea intersection on the Emirates Road and goes till the Sheikh Khalifa Street intersection. Al Hammadi stressed the keenness of the ministry to keep pace with the international best road practices.
