MHA: Singapore arrests 2 men who tried to join Daesh

Two Singaporeans, who intended to travel to Syria to fight for terror group Daesh, have been detained under the Internal Security Act, the Singaporean Ministry of Home Affairs said on Friday as quoted by Skynews.

Rosli Hamzah, a 50-year-old car washer, and Mohamed Omar Mahadi, a 33-year-old waste truck driver, received two-year detention orders this month, said the ministry in a statement.

Both men had also sought information online on how to travel to Syria to fight for Daesh. Rosli had searched for possible travel routes to Syria, while Omar had contacted militants for travel advice.

Earlier this month, Indonesian police arrested six suspected terrorists over a plot to launch a rocket attack on an up-market Singapore waterfront district from the nearby Indonesian island of Batam.

The alleged leader of the group is accused of planning the attack with a leading Indonesian terrorists, who is believed to be fighting with Daesh group in Syria.
