
Mercenaries had been prepared to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela for just 20 million Colombian pesos - 10,600 dollars. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Venezuela, Miguel Torres. Two Colombian citizen suspected of involvement in plotting the assassination of Maduro were detained in Venezuela in August, Voice of Russia reported. At the time, Torres said the perpetrators, aged between 18 and 22, were part of a group of 10 people plotting to murder the head of state. Further investigation revealed that the Colombians had two rifles with telescopic sights, photos of Maduro and the parliamentary Speaker Diosdado Cabello, as well as sets of Venezuelan army uniforms, RIA Novosti reports. Venezuelan Interior Minister, appearing on local radio, also reported having visited Colombia to exchange data on the case with the local intelligence services. Earlier, Venezuelan authorities uncovered alleged plans for another attempt on Maduro, in an operation codenamed "Operation of the Baby".
