Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak has lauded Indonesia`s efforts in handling the haze disaster.

"In the last two years, no haze has spread from Indonesia to Malaysia. I laud Indonesia`s efforts in addressing the haze disaster," Razak stated here on Wednesday.

The statement was conveyed during the 12th Annual Consultation Meeting between Razak and Indonesian President Joko Widodo held at the Hilton Hotel in Kuching on Wednesday.

Indonesia had made several efforts to ensure that haze did not recur in Malaysia.

"Thank you Indonesia for giving serious attention," Razak noted.

In 2015, forest fires had broken out in Indonesia, causing thick smoke to spread to Malaysia.

"However, during the 2016-2017 period, Malaysia has not experienced haze," he pointed out.

The absence of smog is good news for the Malaysian society, as the people can breathe clean and healthy air.

"Malaysian people, including those in Sarawak, can enjoy healthy air. The weather is good," he pointed out.

During the 12th Annual Consultation Meeting between Indonesia and Malaysia, the two leaders are expected to discuss various issues including those related to bilateral economic cooperation, manpower and border, and security and defense.

During his visit to Kuching, President Widodo is also scheduled to meet the Indonesian community in Sarawak. Some five thousand Indonesian nationals are expected to attend the gathering with the president.

Among members of the president`s entourage in Kuching are Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board Thomas Lembong, Coordinating Minister for Culture and Human Development Puan Maharani, Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri, Chief of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki, and Minister/State Secretary Pratikno
