A mainland official on Monday called for deepened mutual trust and enhanced cooperation between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Taiwan's Kuomintang (KMT). Zhang Zhijun, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Wu Poh-Hsiung, honorary chairman of the KMT, who is attending a summit on Hakka culture in the city of Ganzhou in east China's Jiangxi Province. Zhang said the CPC and the KMT have played a vital role in promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. Zhang called on the two sides to make more contributions toward improving the well-being of people from both sides, as well as the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Taiwan, as well as the mainland provinces of Guangdong, Fujian and Jiangxi, are home to the Hakka ethnic group.
