MP Saad al Gamal stressed on Sunday that statements made by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Iyad Madani relating to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi represent a flagrant violation of all political, diplomatic, religious and ethical norms.
In a statement, Gamal, who heads the House of Representatives' Arab Affairs Committee, said Madani's mocking comment represents an insult and ridicule to the President of Egypt and all Egyptians.
But this bizarre behavior by a man assuming such a top post at the OIC did not only harm Egypt and its symbols but also harmed the organization he is serving and Saudi Arabia which he represents, he added.
He lauded the honorable stances of Saudi officials who rushed to condemn such shameful statements, urging the OIC to hold its representative accountable for this grave mistake.
He noted that the Egyptians are fully aware that this irresponsible behavior is an individual one that does not represent the official Saudi stance.
Madani, who has headed the 57-member bloc since 2014, has apologized for his comment over Sisi, saying in a statement he meant no "insult to the Egyptian leadership".
