Russia and Poland should overcome historic contradictions and build up good neighborly relations, former Polish president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa said in an interview with Itar-Tass on Friday. “The Russian-Polish relations cannot be called excellent,” the ex-leader of Poland’s Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” said. “We are resolving our problems too slowly and too slowly arriving at understanding that we are destined to be neighbors and should try to make our relations pleasant.” “Finally, we need to clarify our relations and build them up in a friendly manner,” Walesa said adding he had been making such attempts as president, but failed to finish the job. Walesa called on the two countries’ authorities to sit at a negotiating table and openly discuss those problems that hamper Russia and Poland to move forward. “We need to say once and for all who did bad and what was done wrong and draw the line. Until we do this, the wound will not heal,” he said.
