Lebanese FM: Lebanon has the right to participate in Geneva II conference

Lebanon has the right to participate in Geneva II peace conference, to seek a peaceful solution to the Lebanese crisis, said Lebanese Caretaker Foreign Minister, Adnan Mansour on Friday. Mansour added in a interview with the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) "the participation in Geneva II conference is in Lebanon's best interest to find a political solution to the vast number of Syrian refugees' dilemma that's affecting Lebanon since the start of Syrian crisis." "Lebanon did not receive an official invitation to attend the conference but its partaking in it will push forth peace in Syria as well as Lebanon," he noted. "Lebanon has adopted a policy to not interfere in the affairs of any country, especially in Syria," he said, stressing that Lebanon is against acts of violence as well as any violent action to change any regimes. On the issue of Syrian violations at the border, Mansour said the Israeli violations differed from the Syrian breaches since Israel violates deliberately, while the Syrian violations occur inadvertently. However, the UN Envoy to Syria Al-Akhdar Al-Ibrahimi is working to hold the Geneva II conference and it is expected that the US, Russia, regional countries and the Syrian government will take part in it, Mansour said. The Syrian opposition's conditions must be accepted not only by the government but by regional states, he added. Meanwhile, Al-Ibrahimi has started discussions with Lebanese officials regarding Lebanese involvement in conference.
