Tehran - Irna

The Libyan people should remain on scene until the establishment of a popular government, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said in a message published on Saturday. He made the remark in a message on the occasion of the complete victory of Libyan revolutionaries in Libya. “The fall of regional dictators including Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi shows that the tyrant dictators who deny nations their basic rights and ignore the Islamic commands will face a doomed fate,” Larijani said. He noted that other world dictators who suppose through support of arrogant powers they can continue their totalitarian rule should learn from Gaddafi's fate. “Iran supports the Libyan nation’s efforts for the establishment of an independent democratic government,” the Iranian parliament speaker added. He underscored that the Libyan nation should cut off the hands of criminals affiliated to the former regime as well as foreigners seeking to plunder Libya's natural resources and wealth. Ruling Libya since 1969, Gaddafi started to lose his grip on power in February with the outbreak of a popular revolution against his despotic regime. The revolution witnessed intense fighting between government troops and opposition fighters. In August, fighters captured Tripoli and Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound in the capital. Gaddafi was killed on October 20 and he is the first dictator to be killed in the wave of popular uprisings and revolutions, sweeping through North Africa and the Middle East. The interim government of Libya has declared that the death of Colonel Gaddafi means the complete liberation of the country and start of a process that would lead to the general election. Iran hailed the killing of ousted Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and said it hopes his death will spell a swift end to NATO's military intervention. Iran backed the eight-month uprising that culminated in Gaddafi's death. Iran has also sent several humanitarian aid cargos to Libya and voiced consistent support for the popular campaign to end Gaddafi's 42-year rule.
