Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security has detained several former senior Kyrgyz officials on suspicion of trying to seize State power, the committee said on Friday.

According to a press service from the committee, a criminal case has been filed against the detained officials, who were members of an association namely "People's Parliament" preparing to seize power by violence.

Some evidences proved that these members of the association were plotting to organize actions aimed at destabilizing the country's socio-political situation and seizing power by violence.

Also, they were found attempting to use violence and weapons against officials in order to achieve their criminal aims, the press service said.

The suspects were taken to the committee for further investigations.

According to local media, among the suspects are former deputy prime minister and ex-governor of Jalal-Abad oblast, Bekbolot Talgarbekov, Consumer Corporation President Torobai Kolubaev, and former Finance Minister Marat Sultanov.

In addition, a video appearing on the Internet shows that the suspects were discussing the overthrow of the government and organization of 20,000 people to stage a protest on May 17.

The "People's Parliament" was founded in April 2016 and its members insist on change of power in Kyrgyzstan, according to news reports.
