The State of Kuwait affirmed its support of the UN measures to reinforce the rule of law, stressing the importance of implementing steps to ensure the respect of human rights, security, and peace as mentioned by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's report, said a diplomat late Thursday. Since 1962, the Kuwaiti constitution made it paramount that the rule of law was upheld and observed, First Secretary at the Kuwaiti Permanent Delegation to the UN Saud Al-Harbi said in his speech to the meeting on reinforcement of the rule of law which is part of the 68th UN General Assembly. The Kuwaiti constitution is based on respect of civil rights, democracy, and freedom, said Al-Harbi, adding that Kuwait, as a nation, was very keen on implementing international legislations that would ensure justice and equality amongst people. The Kuwaiti diplomat then touched on the issue concerning the Arab-Israeli conflict, noting that the 60-year crisis resulted in more oppression on part of Israelis against Palestinians. He lauded the US efforts in terms of finding a solution to the longstanding issue, hoping that the international law would be implemented to ensure the rights of Palestinians for a free independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. On the Syria crisis, Al-Harbi called on the UNSC to execute measures that would end the conflict which has been ragging for two years and a half. Al-Harbi briefed the meeting on Kuwait's efforts in aiding the Syrian people, indicating that the donors' conference in Kuwait managed to gather USD 1.5 billion to aid Syrian refugees and displaced. Kuwait contributed around USD 300 million.
