The State of Kuwait expressed its support on Friday of the recommendations of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on strengthening the conventions on human rights worldwide. Kuwait affirms its commitment to international charters and agreements on human rights as the 7th article of the Kuwaiti Constitution states that justice, liberty, and equality are the pillars of society as cooperation and mutual help are the firmest bonds between citizens, Abdulrahman Bandar Al-Daihani, Third Secretary and member of the participating Kuwaiti delegation to the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, told the Social, Humanitarian, Cultural Affairs Committee (Third Committee) at the session. Based on rules and provisions of Islamic law, as well as embodiment of its values, which society is keen to strengthen, a Human Rights studying course was introduced to Kuwaiti educational institutions in 2006, aiming at making students aware of the importance of democracy, constitution, human rights, and role of international organizations in protecting human rights laws, noted Al-Daihani. Also, he expressed Kuwait's condemnation of illegal Israeli settlement practices in the occupied Palestinian lands, as well as its ongoing violation of rights of Palestinian people such as imposing restrictions on their mobility, confiscating their properties, destroying their homes, and detaining thousands of Palestinians inside Israeli prisons under inhuman conditions that contradict human rights principles. In addition, he comdemned the human rights violations taking place in Syria.
