Kuwait chairs Arab Group in UNESCO

The State of Kuwait was chosen to chair the Arab Group in the United Nations United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the year 2016, Kuwait's permanent delegate 
to UNESCO Dr. Meshal Hayat announced today.

Within the UNESCO, "the Arab Group carries more weight on matters that are beneficial to Arab nations such as: culture, education, science and sociology, " Hayat pointed out; hence, Kuwait will strive during its chairmanship to promote and enhance Arab coordination to achieve Arabs aspirations.

The Arab Group's monthly meetings usually discusses preparations for various executive matters within the group and strive to see eye-to-eye on many issues that concerns Arab nation, he added.

In a Group's meeting, Hayat pointed out that committees on culture, human science, social science, education and communication were formed. It also tackled hosting few events with elite figures in the UNESCO, most importantly with UNESCO's Director-General Irina Bokova, to confer about Arab issues within this international organization.

The Arab Group in the UNESCO aims at developing education methodologies, preserving cultural heritage, especially in countries that see conflict like: Iraq, Syria and Libya.

Hayat hoped that all Arab aspirations would be met in 2016. "We are striving to intensify hosting seminars in the Arabic language as an attempt to highlight it, as it has been recognized as one of the six official 
languages in the United Nations," he said.

UNESCO has chosen December 18 to celebrate "World Arab Language Day," Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported today.
