The Russian military are in Syria on legal grounds, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday when asked about the Kremlin’s reaction to the US decision to send 250 additional troops to Syria.
"I can only say once again that the Russian contingent is in Syria on legal grounds, in full conformity with international law, on the basis of the Syrian legitimate authorities’ request," Peskov was quoted as saying by Tass.
Earlier on Monday, US President Barack Obama, speaking in Hanover, Germany, said Washington would dispatch up to 250 additional personnel to Syria.
Obama also called the threat posed by Daesh one of the most serious.
