Tehran - FNA

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's Spokesman Martin Nesirky announced that Ki-moon is still convinced that the Geneva talks constitute the best way for solving the crisis in Syria, and stressed the need for continuing dialogue. In a statement on Tuesday, Nesirky said the UN Secretary General still believes that Geneva 2 international conference on Syria is the only sound way and hopes that the talks will be resumed soon, despite what he described as "failure" of the 2nd round of the talks. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said that the second round of talks at Geneva conference did not fail, contrary to the some media analysis or the reactions of the French and British foreign ministers. Al-Moallem said that the second round achieved a very important point thanks to the awareness of Syrian negotiators when they announced Syria’s agreement to the agenda proposed by UN Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi which starts off by rejecting violence and combating terrorism. Nesirky pointed out that the UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi will brief Ki-moon and the UN Security Council on the outcomes of his mission, but he did not say when Brahimi is going to visit New York. He reiterated the UN Secretary General and Brahimi's determination to push the Geneva talks forward.
