Sydney - Itar Tass

Julian Assange announced that if he wins the upcoming Australian parliamentary elections slated for September 7th, he will not abandon his work with Wikileaks. During an online conference Assange, who is currently stating in Ecuador’s Embassy in London, told Australian voters of plans to apply his Wikileaks experience in Senate if he wins to continue uncovering illegal activity of governments of various countries around the globe. "One of the first things that we will do when we have someone in the Senate is go and give every senator a secure USB communications system where they can convey to WikiLeaks information about corruption within Australian political parties and so on that they've observed but can't reveal," Wikileaks founder said. He added that he plans to improve impact of free media on the government; the agenda is to make the government a transparent, honest institute, accountable to the people. Assange’s position is not revolutionary, he admitted – he was merely talking about basic principles of democratic government. Julian Assange is a Victorian State Senate candidate. According to the latest polls, over 25% of voters from this state support him; this includes over 40% of citizens under 30 years of age. During the conference Wikileaks founder refused to speculate on his chances to become a senator, but emphasized that in case he wins and can’t come to Australia for some reason, he will be replaced by another representative of the Wikileaks party. Currently Assange is still in Ecuador’s embassy in the United Kingdom, trying to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where he is accused of sexual harassment. Wikileaks founder declared on several occasions that attempts of British authorities to extradite him to Sweden are orchestrated by the American government.
