
His Majesty King Abdullah II launched on Thursday the Aqaba Container Terminal Expansion project and the new Phosphate Port. During a visit to the southern city, the King also checked on the future action plan of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, ASEZA, as well as plans of the Aqaba Development Company before meeting with local, Arab, and foreign investors. At a meeting with president and members of ASEZA Board of Commissioners as well as senators and MPs' of the governorate, the King stressed the need to work in a one team spirit with the highest level of coordination with all concerned parties in the city of Aqaba to help in carrying out future strategic projects and contribute to attracting investments. His Majesty also called for setting up a partnership council between ASEZA and the local community to define the needs of local communities and engage them in decision making and meet their needs. King Abdullah urged the government to hold a Cabinet session in Aqaba soon to discuss the best means to address all challenges that face all sectors as well as government plans to promote investments and develop the business environment in Aqaba. Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said the government will implement the King's directives regarding holding meetings between ministers, officials and representatives of the local community in Aqaba to check on the needs of the local community and put plans to address problems that faces it.
