Iraqi, Indian PMs strongly oppose foreign military intervention in Syria

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh stressed their strong opposition to foreign military intervention in Syria, and called for a cessation of hostilities and a negotiated end to the crisis in the Muslim state. In a joint statement following their talks in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Saturday, al-Maliki and Singh condemned terrorism and extremism as a major threat posed to the societies. The two sides urged the international community to decisively combat terrorism, emphasizing the continued cooperation in the counter-terrorism efforts according to the mutual principles and values that the two countries share, based on religious tolerance, accord and fraternity.
