Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al Jaafari
Baghdad - Arab Today

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al Jaafari has reiterated his call on Turkey to withdraw its troops from Bashiqa town, in northeastern Mosul.

These remarks were made during separate meetings Jaafari has held with the foreign ministers of the US, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Turkey on the sidelines of the international talks on Syria, held in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Jaafari has urged the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Iraqi territories and ending their breach of Iraq's sovereignty, according to the Iraqi foreign minister's media office.

Calling on Ankara to commit to the international agreements and to maintain good neighborly relations, Jaafari noted that Iraq is waging a war against Daesh, on behalf of all the world, to defend its sovereignty and it has not asked for any participation by foreign forces on its land.

Meanwhile, Iraq's top diplomat underscored the importance of rallying international efforts to confront terrorism and to work on hammering out solutions to the Arab region's crises.

On that score, Jaafari touched on the need to not wage side battles in which there will be no winner, but terrorism.

For their part, the foreign ministers of the US, Russia, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan affirmed their rejection of Turkey's intervention in Iraq, and said they stand by Iraq in its war against Daesh terrorist group.
