
The Iraqi government expressed on Tuesday appreciations for the support of the international community in its fight against terrorists in Anbar province, calling at the same for a clear support by the UN Security Council. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki expressed, in a statement on the sidelines of a meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Iraq, his thanks and appreciation for the international community's support for the government's endeavors to crack down on outlawed in Anbar. "We appreciate such stance by the international community, but also call for a clear statement by the UN Security Council to Iraq's battle against terrorism," he said. Al-Maliki also warned those who supported terrorists against the consequences of continuing with this approach, which undermined international security and stability. Meanwhile, the Italian government affirmed its solidarity with the Iraqi government and its military operations waged against extremist militias in Anbar province, confirming support of Rome to impose security and restore stability in local communities. Foreign Minister Emma Bonino expressed solidarity with the Iraqi government in its management of a serious security crisis, according to a statement issued by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Italy supports the process of rebuilding security framework in the country based on regional stability and as well through efforts exerted by the European Union, the statement added.
