The foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan agreed here on Tuesday to enhance trilateral cooperation in a number of areas, according to official IRNA news agency.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkish and Azeri counterparts Mevlut Cavusoglu and Elmar Mammadyarov respectively, issued a statement at the end of their meeting to strengthen cooperation on mutual and regional issues.

The three sides agreed to cooperate on a variety of issues, including transit, energy, tourism and culture, Zarif said, adding that they will work together to improve peace and security in the region.

He said the three ministers agreed that their deputies would set up a steering committee to follow up on the decisions adopted during the meeting, according to Press TV.

Zarif said the meeting attendees called for observing international regulations and implementing international accords by the parties involved, particularly the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers reached in July 2015.

The next ministerial meeting between the three will be hosted by Azerbaijan, he added.

Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan have met three times since 2011 to exchange views on trilateral and regional issues.
