Tehran - Fars

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has sent letters to different countries to brief them on the baseless nature of the United States' recent allegations about Iran's involvement in a terrorist plot and to pronounce its stance in this regard, a senior diplomat said on Tuesday.Speaking to FNA, Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said prior to his regional tour, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salehi "Salehi sent a message to the foreign ministers of the different countries to declare the Islamic Republic of Iran's stance on this fabricated scenario and our arguments (against it)." He added that the Iranian foreign ministry had earlier issued an official statement, and called on those countries involved in the scenario to inform Tehran of any kind of document or proof the Americans have presented to them in this regard.Amir Abdollahian reiterated that Iran has also asked the US through links (most probably the Swiss embassy in Tehran which represents the US interests) and told Washington officials that they should have presented the proof of their allegations to Iran through proper channels. On October 11, the US alleged that Iran had attempted to hire a Mexican drug gang to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Adel Al-Jubeir. Two men have been charged in the New York federal court in connection with the alleged plot. Manssor Arbabsiar is a 56-year-old naturalized US citizen. In May 2011, the US criminal complaint says, he approached someone he believed to be a member of the vicious Mexican drug cartel, Los Zetas, for help with an attack on the Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel al-Jubeir. The man he approached turned out to be an informant for US drug agents, it says. The US administration charges that Arbabsiar had been told by his cousin Abdul Reza Shahlai to recruit a drug trafficker for a hitman job. Tehran has repeatedly rejected the accusation as "baseless" and "a fabricated scenario".
