Tehran - FNA
Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society Mohammad Farhadi in a meeting with UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos announced Tehran's readiness to set up the UN's logistical support base in the country to help the neighboring states. Farhadi made the remarks in response to Amos's demand from Iran to set up a base to transfer humanitarian aids to the war-torn and crisis-hit neighboring countries. He announced Iran's preparedness to set up the base, and said, "The arrangements for setting up the base have been made since long time ago and the operational phase has just remained to be accomplished that we hope to start as soon as possible." In relevant remarks earlier this month, Amos in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani lauded the Islamic Republic for supplying the Syrians with humanitarian aids on a regular basis. During the meeting in Damascus, Amos pointed to Iran’s role in supplying humanitarian aids to the Syrian nation, and appreciated the Islamic Republic for hosting a trilateral conference among Iran, Syria and Switzerland to coordinate the international contributions for the Syrian nation. The UN undersecretary general also presented a report on her meetings with the Syrian officials and the moves that the UN has made to supply humanitarian aids for the Syrian refugees. The Iranian ambassador, for his part, presented a report on the humanitarian aids of the Islamic Republic given to the Syrian nation since the intensification of the crisis in the Muslim country. Raouf Sheibani also announced the Iran’s readiness to dispatch a greater amount of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people. Earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that the Islamic Republic will continue dispatch of its humanitarian aids to Syria. “Under difficult living conditions of the Syrian people, the (Iranian) government will continue sending its humanitarian aid and assistance (to them) while condemning any hostile act against the regional countries, specially Syria,” President Rouhani said. Last month, Iran distributed its latest humanitarian aid supplies among Syrian and Palestinian civilians in Syria on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan (ended August 8). The aid cargo included foodstuff and medicine. Iran dispatched its fourth consignment of humanitarian supplies, including medicines and medical equipment, to Syria in July in a bid to help people affected by the unrest in the Muslim country. The Islamic Republic also sent several ambulances to Syria last month.
