Tehran rejected the baseless claims raised by Canada about the nature of the Iranian nuclear program, and questioned Canada' honesty in its support for the Non-Proliferation Treaty, saying that Ottawa is an accomplice of Israel in its war crimes since it is a main arms supplier to Tel Aviv.In a statement issued by the Iranian delegation at the meeting of the UN General Assembly Committee for Disarmament and International Security in New York, the Iranian diplomats said the allegations raised by the Canadian envoy about the nature of Iran's peaceful nuclear program are "baseless" and contain deceiving information. The Iranian delegation also lambasted Canada's silence on Israel's clandestine nuclear arms program, reminding that the Israeli program is "a serious threat to regional and international peace and security". "Canada is a main supplier of arms to the Zionist regime and is, thus, Israel's accomplice in its crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories and should be accountable for this support," he noted. Iran, as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has repeatedly called for the removal of all weapons of mass destruction from across the globe. Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry. Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment. Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
