Investigators summon Mayor Elect of Urals city for interrogation

Mayor Elect of Yekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth-largest city located in Central Urals, Yevgeny Roizman has been summoned for interrogation to the regional Investigations Committee as an eyewitness, Alexander Shulga, a senior aide to the chief of the Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass Tuesday. “It’s true that Yevgeny Roizman (the Mayor Elect) has been summoned for questioning but I can’t specify right now the case in connection with which he as told to report to the investigators,” Shulga said. Anastasia Uderevskaya, a lawyer representing the City Without Drugs Foundation told Itar-Tass the questioning will continue September 11. Residents of Yekaterinburg elected the new mayor Sunday, September 8. The data released by the City Election Commission says Yevgeny Roizman, who is an ardent activist of the anti-drugs movement, a businessman and a poet, received 33.31% votes. He was running on the party ticket of the Civic Platform party led by the Moscow-based billionaire businessman Mikhail Prokhorov. His closest contender, Yakov Silin of the United Russia Party received 29.71%. The election was held in a single round as the victor was decided on the basis of a simple majority of votes.
