ICRC: ARC frees kidnapped Colombian soldier

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said Sunday the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group has already released Colombian solider Jhonatan Mora kidnapped days ago. The ICRC said the Colombian solider, abducted by the guerrilla group on Thursday, has been freed in a rural area of the southwestern province of Narino, but did not specify the date of the release. Mora had a foot injury and the guerrilla group treated him with some basic medicines. Olivier Dorighel, director of the ICRC office in Narino, said after Mora's release that he was admitted to a hospital for further medical treatment. Meanwhile, Narino's Secretary of Government Jaime Rodriguez said the kidnapping occurred after the guerrilla attacked a rural area known as La Llanada. The ICRC has so far this year helped secure the release of 16 people held by the armed groups, noted Dorighel. The Colombian government and the FARC began peace talks in Havana in November 2012 in a bid to end the five-decade fighting between government forces and the rebels. The talks center around five points, including rural development, an end to the war, the drug trade, the rebels' future and compensation of the victims of the conflict. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has said he wanted the talks to be completed by the end of this year.
