State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan Tuesday said incumbent government is very much ready to investigate the allegations of rigging in general
election and same was agreed in the maiden session of the National Assembly through
constituting a committee to probe those charges.
He said this in Senate during debate on third progress, monitoring and inquiry report of the Standing Committee on Interior on the General Election, 2018 presented in the House.
It is to mention that National Assembly approved formation of a special committee to probe
allegations of rigging in General Election 2018.
State Minister said elections were not conducted by PTI and we had also remained among the affectees of election rigging. From the day first after coming into power, it was agreed to probe into these allegations and to constitute a committee having equal representation from the treasury and opposition benches.
He said same was decided in the meeting attended by PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto, PML-N MNA Khawaja Asif and ANP MNA Ameer Haider Khan Hoti.
To the objections raised by the Senators for not giving representation
to the Upper House in this Committee, the minister said Senate is the House
of Federation and PTI looks this House as `supreme’.
Senator Azam Swati appreciated the efforts of Standing Committee
on Interior for preparing this report. He said Result Transmission System was introduced by NADRA and this system was put in place to make elections
controversial.
He said Chief Election Commissioner and members of
Election Commission were appointed by the previous government and the
opposition.
Taking part in debate earlier, Senator Raza Rabbani
criticized the government over constituting a committee to investigate about
allegations of election rigging without representation to members of Senate.
He said Senators did not care over neglecting
them for representation from this committee but the Senate would not be bound to
follow the recommendations of the Committee if the legislation is required
after it.
MQM lawmaker Nighat Mirza demanded to conduct consensus again
in Karachi and alleged that fair counting of population was not made in the recently
held consensus.
PKMAP lawmakers Usman Kakar, Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan
Musakhel, Independent Senator Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, PML-N Senator Pervaiz
Rasheed demanded to promote the democratic norms in the country.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani assured the House that
Parliamentary Committee constituted for the purpose would have representation
from the Senate. “I would ensure representation from Senate if it is
Parliamentary Committee,” he said.
Later, the House adopted this progress report on the general
election moved in the House following motion under sub-rule (1) of rule 196 of
