
A high-level German Church Leaders delegation will arrive in Jordan on Saturday, where they will be visiting the Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees of the Middle East Council of Churches DSPR Jordan for a first-hand look at the programs and activities conducted by the department for Syrian refugees in Jordan. DSPR Chairperson Farah Atallah said that the delegation represents 17 leaders of the catholic and Evangelical churches in Germany in addition to the presidents of international NGO’s namely DKH (Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe) and the president of CARITAS International and representatives of official media in Germany and satellite channels. Atallah added that the purpose of the visit is to advocate and raise the awareness of the public in Germany about the situation of Syrian refugees in the host countries especially in Jordan in order to increase the support to DSPR and other organizations that are working to support Syrian refugees in their crisis, indicating that this visit shows the great interest in Jordan as a module in coexistence in unstable and tensioned region. Mirjam Roller DKH representative said that the DKH supports refugees and displaced people and wars victims all over the world in coordination with its local partners regardless their religion, color or sex. Roller added that during 2013, DKH supported Syrian refugees through its local partner such as DSPR and CARITAS and its local partners in host countries with total amount of 7 million Euro, noting that the official visit of the German delegation and the German media will help DKH raise awareness of the German public on the Syrian cause and the Syrian refugees and their crisis. The German delegation will start its program by visiting the Myrtar Azmi Al-Mufti Camp in Husn to look at the activities that DSPR Jordan is providing to the Syrian refugees and the needy people in its vocational training centers for girls located at the camp. Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe is an international NGO that represent the Evangelical Church and was founded in 1954. Its headquarter is in Berlin and has offices worldwide. It supports Syrian displaced in Syria and in the host countries, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq.
