German Ambassador to Egypt Julius Georg Luy
Qena - Arab Today

German Ambassador to Egypt Julius Georg Luy said Sunday the embassy has decided to extend its activities to all provinces in Egypt and not just Greater Cairo where the majority of the people live.

The German Week in Upper Egypt, which includes Luxor, Qena, Sohag and Menya, is a message of assurance that Germany cooperates with Egypt in several fields including science and economy, the German diplomat said in a speech he gave during a visit to the Technology Transfer Center of Al Azhar University's Faculty of Engineering.

The German Week aims at getting acquainted with the interests of locals in these governorates, he said, adding that Germany cooperates in important projects in the governorate particularly sanitation and water.

The ambassador said he is ready to provide training for a number of German language teachers from Qena as the first step toward establishing a German school in the governorate.

Qena Governor Abdel Hamid el Haggan reviewed cooperation fields between Egypt and Germany particularly in Qena over the past few years, voicing hope for more cooperation.

The Egyptian government exerts great efforts to establish important projects in the fields of water, sanitation, roads, health and education, he added.

He suggested training German language teachers through Goethe Institute in order to begin their work next year and establish a German school in Qena.
