Tbilisi - Itar-Tass

Ten days ahead of the presidential election in Georgia due on October 27, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has once more confirmed his plans to resign. He was speaking at a news conference for local print media's chief editors and heads of Georgian radio stations’ information services. Ivanishvili did not specify the date but said “this step does not mean I am withdrawing from Georgia’s social life.” “I have been active in politics for two years, and I am going to be active in the country’s social life for about 20 years ahead. I think my health will allow for this,” said Ivanishvili. In recent months Ivanishvili has repeatedly announced plans to resign by year-end. “Once Saakashvili is no longer president, the country will see an absolutely new political situation, and the Government may no more need my help,” he said. Ivanishvili was appointed on October 25, 2012 by the new parliament formed after October 1 elections won by the coalition party Georgian Dream.
