Riyadh - QNA
GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Al Zayani has expressed the concern of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) member states at the escalation of the Syrian crisis which is now threatening the regional security and stability because of the intransigence of the Syrian regime. The GCC states also voiced their strong condemnation of the criminal acts and inhuman practices the Syrian regime is committing against its own people, said Al Zayani who called upon the international community to urgently interfere to rescue the Syrian people of the brutality of the Syrian regime and put an end to their painful suffering and plight. Elaborating the GCC chief said that the Syrian regime is fully responsible for what has been going on in Syria for its (Syrian regime) rejection to all Arab and non-Arab initiatives made to resolve such a crisis and its ongoing practices of killing, genocide and the use of the internationally prohibited chemical weapons which claimed hundreds of innocent people. The GCC member states fully support the international measures being adopted to deter the Syrian Regime and prevent it from continuing its repressive , immoral and inhumane practices, said Abdul Latif Al Zayani. The GCC states and the European Union had called for political settlement for the Syrian crisis, vowing to exert efforts to help convene a peace conference over the conflict. The one-day ministerial meeting held in Bahrain recently and attended by EU foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton and the foreign ministers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, also called on Iran to play "a constructive role" in the international efforts to suppress the violence.
