Paris - Anadolu
French President Francois Hollande met on Friday with the foreign ministers of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Jordan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) to discuss the Syria crisis. In his meeting with Saud al Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of UAE and Nasser Judeh of Jordan at the Elysee Palace in Paris, Hollande asked for the "strong support" of their countries regarding military strike on Syria and the related draft resolution France would propose to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE were also set to discuss with the French president the Russian plan for placing Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal under international control by the UN before a military action was launched on Damascus regime. Hollande said that they would wait for the final decision of the United States Congress before engaging in such an action on Syria. He will appear on a TV programme on TF1 channel on Sunday to brief French people on his government's Syria policy. Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will pay visits to China and Russia next week as part of a persuasion tour concerning the military intervention in Syrian civil war. France and the United States are the key countries calling upon the world countries for military action on Syria over the use of chemical weapons by Syria's Assad regime forces on civilians, killing hundreds. Besides, Gulf Arab states are also among the strongest proponents of intervention against Assad, backed by his main ally Iran, whose influence in the region they seek to avert.
