Dubai - Arab Today

The Constitutional, Legislative Affairs and Appeals Committee in the Federal National Council, FNC, discussed the policies of the Ministry of Justice on legislation development during a meeting held at the headquarters of the FNC’s General Secretariat in Dubai on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Committee.

Sheikh Mohammed Al Nuaimi said that the committee reviewed the draft report on the policies of the Ministry of Justice on legislation development, and made a few amendments before it is presented at the next meeting.

He highlighted that the UAE Vision 2021 focused on making the UAE one of the best countries in the world in terms of the performance of the judicial system, and the ministry’s work would include drafting legislation and conducting all legal affairs related to the issuance of legal opinions to the government authorities, according to the Constitution and laws.

This comes as part of the pillars of the strategy and initiatives related to the development of legislation and legal services, and the stages and mechanisms of drafting legislation through the technical legislation committee, he added.

He said that the committee reviewed the analytical studies presented by the FNC General Secretariat on the same subject during its previous meeting, and pointed out that the committee met with the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, who responded to their inquiries on the matter.

He explained that the committee also reviewed the policies of the Ministry of Justice on the legal profession during the meeting, as part of the regulatory plan approved by the committee to discussed several general issues.

The pillars of the subject included the legislation in the legal profession, the Emiratisation of said profession, lawyers’ licences at the federal and local levels, and licences for non-citizens in free zones.
