A man was arrested last week in Arizona as part of an FBI terrorism investigation pledged support for Daesh terror group and researched "lone wolf" attacks online, according to court documents released late Friday.
Derrick Thompson, 30 years old, was arrested Dec. 20 and is being held on suspicion of "participating in and assisting a criminal syndicate along with attempted misconduct involving weapons," according to an FBI statement.
Thompson was charged in state court and has not been assigned a public defender yet. He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. The FBI revealed it had been investigating Thompson for the past two years, and gathering online evidence from his Google accounts and other online sources. Police said that in that time, Thompson had made several suspicious Google searches.
According to the court documents, Thompson who also goes by the name Abu Talib Al-Amriki, had tried to buy firearms despite having a felony conviction that barred him from possessing them.
