
United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General José Graziano da Silva hailed Oman's support for the UN agency three regional initiatives; Water Scarcity, Building Resilience for Food Security and Nutrition as well as Regional Initiative on Small-Scale Agriculture for Inclusive Development.
This came during the 33rd session of FAO Regional Conference for the Near East (NERC) which was held in Rome on May 9-13 with the participation of concerned government agencies representatives, FAO officials along with regional and international experts.
Oman's vision focused on tackling food security, agriculture and nutrition challenges at both the regional and the international levels.
It also focused on applying the Blue Growth Initiative with the aim of attaining humanitarian, social and economic sustainable development in the region.
Held every two years to ensure the effectiveness of FAO programs, FAO Regional Conference for NERC is deemed the highest-level FAO conference in the region.
It sets the agenda FAO for the following two years as well as its budget.
