Brussels - Xinhua

European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Monday strongly condemned the attacks killing dozens on Christmas Day in Nigeria. "I am profoundly shocked and saddened by the terrorist attacks which took place in several regions of Nigeria, including cowardly attacks on religious symbols and Churches during the Christmas period, with appalling loss of human lives," Ashton said in a statement. "I condemn in the strongest possible terms these attacks and all other acts of terrorism," she said, adding that the EU would support the Nigerian authorities in their fight against terrorism. A bomb exploded on Sunday morning at St. Therasa Catholic Church in Madalla town on the outskirts of the country's capital Abuja after the Christmas Day Mass, killing at least 25. Hours later, blasts were reported in central Nigerian city of Jos.
