French MP Philippe Folliot
Cairo - Arab Today

French MP Philippe Folliot, Secretary of the French Parliament's Defense Committee and President of the Egyptian-French Friendship Group on Tuesday said the EgyptAir plane crash would not affect "strong and solid" relations linking Cairo and Paris.

Nothing can negatively affect the two countries' relations, Folliot told reporters after his meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo.

Folliot is leading a delegation of the French parliament for a visit to Cairo to emphasize the solidarity of the French parliament and people with the Egyptian people in these difficult circumstances.

Circumstances of this tragic incident are not known yet, the French MP said.

The visit to Egypt, scheduled before several weeks, reflects friendly relations between the two countries, he added.

Folliot stressed that intelligence sharing should be continued between the two countries to achieve needed results in the war against terrorism.

He added that he is pleased with Egypt's vision to comprehensively fight terrorism that does not depend solely on the military aspect, but also on reducing poverty, upgrading education and empowering women.

The French MP said that his one-hour meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, earlier in the day, showed a consensus on all topics and issues.

President Sisi received the French parliamentary delegation, led by Folliot, earlier in the day.

Sisi has pressed for intensified cooperation between Cairo and Paris to unveil causes that made an EgyptAir plane crash into the Mediterranean last week.

He said that Egypt is keen on restoring the flow of French tourists.

Folliot told Sisi French MPs encourage the French people to visit Egypt.
