Egypt's court upholds freezing Islamist leaders funds

Egypt's court upholds on Tuesday a prosecution order to freeze the funds of the Islamists' top leaders over charges of inciting violence and killings, official news agency MENA reported. Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat has ordered last month to freeze the wealth of several seniors in the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group and the Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya's group in light of investigations over Nahda square violence and killing protesters outside the MB's headquarters. The list included MB's General Guide Mohamed Badie, his two deputies Khairat al-Shater and Rashad Bayoumi, the group former guide Mohamed Mahdi Akef, the chief of the MB's Freedom and Justice party Mohamed Saad al-Katatni, Islamic preacher Safwat Hegazi, and Assem Abdel-Magid, member of the Gamaa's Shura Council. The decision applies on all liquid and movable funds, shares, stocks and the bank accounts.
