Director General of Kuwait's Drug Control General Department (DCGD) Brigadier Saleh Al-Enezi said Friday the DCGD strives to protect the country against the menace of illicit drug trade. "It's clear that the State of Kuwait is targeted by the drug barons, this is why we have adopted a preventive approach through raising public awareness about the health hazards of drug abuse and psychotropic substances besides security campaigns against criminal elements," he told KUNA. Brig. Al-Enezi made the comments following the two-day conference of heads of Arab anti-narcotic agencies. "Due to geographic and social factors, Kuwait is prone to impacts of the illicit drug trade; it lies on the route between the drug producing region in Central Asia and the drug consuming Europe. "Beside, Kuwait has large communities of expatriates from countries notorious for drug production and security instability," he explained. The data collected since the inception of the DCGD in 2006 show stable average of the numbers of drug seizures and arrests made annually, Brig. Al-Enezi pointed out. Kuwait is still free of the production of all psychotropic substances and the marijuana plantation, he added. On the just ended 27the conference of heads of Arab anti-narcotic agencies, he said Kuwait delegation presented a paper on the successes made this year in the combat against narcotics as well as Kuwait expertise in this regard. The paper drew interest of the participants and was adopted as one of the documents of the conference, he added
