Tehran - FNA
Czech Prime Minister Jiri Rusnok stressed that attacking Syria is legally baseless, renewing his country's stance that calls for a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria instead of resorting to force. Rusnok clarified that Syria is a very sensitive country for Czech Republic, as the two countries' relations are deeply-rooted, stressing that directing a military strike to it will not alter the situation there, SANA reported. The Czech PM referred to some NATO sates' rejection of a military action against Syria, noting "despite that Czech is a NATO member state, its embassy is still open in Damascus as it represents countries allied to it." Former US President Carter: unilateral military action against Syria constitutes danger Former US President Jimmy Carter warned the USA of any unilateral action against Syria, considering it as a mistake that would lead to catastrophic consequences. The Russian Ria Novosti News agency quoted the Carter Center, the institute headed by the former president as saying in a statement, "a punitive military response without a UN Security Council mandate or broad support from NATO would be illegal under international law and unlikely to alter the course of the war." The statement also described the use of chemical weapons in Syria as "a grave breach of international law," and it cautioned against the US taking military action without international support, including the need to work with Russia, which has warned of "catastrophic consequences" if the US intervenes with its military in Syria.
