The Civilisation Interaction Conference between the Muslim World and the United States kicked off here, with participation by the United Nations, 450 scholars and thinkers representing 56 states, as well as Islamic and US intellectual and cultural institutions.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the opening ceremony was attended by Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, MWL, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa; Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen; Dr. Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, Secretary General of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies; General President of Grand Mosque and Prophet's Mosque Affairs, Sheik Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, and several senior personalities from the Muslim World.

In his speech before the conference, MWL Secretary-General Dr. Al-Issa highlighted a historic interaction between the Muslim World and the United States through humanitarian, knowledge, economic and political co-operation.

He pointed out that this conference aims to highlight diversity and the need for co-existence and co-operation to serve mutual interests and humanity as a whole, with the aim of promoting social peace and intellectual security to defeat evil.

He further stressed the importance of defeating terrorism and addressing extremism.

OIC Secretary-General Dr. Al-Othaimeen underlined that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation believes in dialogue to enhance mutual respect and understanding among people, confirming that a culture of peaceful co-existence will serve the United States and the Muslim World.

He called to address Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia by adopting a comprehensive approach for dialogue between Americans and Muslims. He emphasised the importance of focusing on common factors between the two sides to establish a mutually beneficial dialogue.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Al-Sudais, in his speech, confirmed the importance of enhancing dialogue and peace, as well as combating terrorism and extremism.

A number of prominent personalities also delivered speeches during the opening ceremony.
