
UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) Albert Gerard Bert Koenders stressed Friday, in Algiers, Algeria’s role in restoring peace and achieving reconciliation in Mali.In a press statement following discussions with Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, Bert Koenders greeted Algeria for its "great efforts" and its "crucial support" to the United Nations which is working for peace and reconciliation in Mali.The chief of MINUSMA mentioned the "major progress" recorded last year in Mali, expressing his "conviction" that the process will continue in 2014, mainly through dialogue and inclusive talks among Malians, reiterating Algeria’s "important role" in backing such efforts.The UNrepresentative added that with reduction in the number of French forces in Mali, the presence of MINUSMA "will be strengthened."The MINUSMA will work in cooperation with Malian forces to boost security and ensure stability in that country.
