Toronto - XINHUA

Canada's foreign minister expressed gratitude Friday to Egypt for helping secure freedom for two Canadian citizens jailed in Cairo for nearly two months. "I thank the government of Egypt for its considerable assistance in this matter and for providing regular consular access, foreign affairs minister Lynne Yelich said in a statement. She also thanked the Canadian ambassador to Egypt and his staff for "ongoing support and assistance." John Greyson and Dr. Tarek Loubani left Cairo Friday for Canada after being detained for seven weeks without charges, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Greyson, a filmmaker, and Loubani, a physician, had been caught up in anti-government protests. They were released last weekend, but not allowed to leave the country.
