London - Arabstoday

British campaigners and human rights activists are to rally outside the Israeli regime’s embassy in London on 30 March as part of an international event, expressing solidarity with Palestinians. The international solidarity act, entitled “Global March to Jerusalem,” will take place on Friday 30 March to mark the Palestinian Land Day. On 11 March, 1976, the Israeli regime published its expropriation plan to confiscate Palestinians’ lands in order to further expand their illegal settlements and build military training camps. Quite interestingly, on 29 March, they also imposed a curfew in a bid to stop Palestinians from voicing their anger over the confiscation of their lands. However, on 30 March, Palestinian activists called for protests and people took part in demonstrations. Israeli regime’s forces killed at least 6 people and wounded over 100 Palestinians. Hundreds of Palestinians were also arrested. The rally outside Israel’s embassy in London is quite symbolic given the bigger picture that the establishment of the Zionist state could have been impossible without Arthur Balfour, Britain’s foreign secretary from 1916 to 1919. “In Palestine we do not propose even to go through the form of consulting the wishes of the present inhabitants of the country,” writes Balfour in a private memo to his successor, the Earl Curzon of Kedleston, in 1919. “Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long tradition, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now occupy that land,” adds Balfour in his private memo. Today, the British leaders still remain committed to securing the Zionist regime’s interests. On his taking the reins of the Conservative Party, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced: “You need to know that if I become prime minister, Israel has a friend who will never turn his back on Israel.” After becoming Britain’s Prime Minister, Cameron proclaimed: “In me, you have a prime minister whose belief in Israel is indestructible... I want to be clear, we will always support Israel.” Furthermore, British Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, sacked Baroness Jenny Tonge from the Liberal Democrat Party after she expressed her views that Israel’s days were numbered.
